How to Edit Templates in the Site Editor

Would you like to change the layout of a whole area of your site instead of editing one page at a time? Templates control the structure for areas such as the homepage, regular pages, blog posts, search results, or the 404 page. In Lennox, you edit them in the Site Editor.

This is the right approach when you want a layout change to apply across a type of content on your site.

When to edit templates

  • You want to change the homepage layout for the whole site.
  • You want all regular pages or all blog posts to share the same layout.
  • You want to edit special layouts like search results or the 404 page.
  • You want to adjust shared parts such as the header or footer while working inside a template.

Editing a template

To edit a template, go to Appearance > Editor. On the Design screen, click Templates. On the Templates screen, review the list under All templates. In Lennox, this includes items such as Front Page, Pages, Single Posts, Search Results, and Page: 404.

Opening the Templates section in the Site Editor.

Click the template you want to edit, then click the content you want to change directly in the canvas. You can edit text, move blocks, add blocks, or remove blocks.

Use the right sidebar to switch between Template and Block settings. In the Front Page template, Lennox also shows shared template parts under Content, including Header and Footer.

Saving template changes

When you are done, click Save in the top right. If the button is disabled, WordPress does not see any new change yet. Once you make a real change, the button becomes active and you can save it.

In the verified Lennox workflow, saving a template was a single click on Save, followed by the notice Template updated.

That's it. To edit templates in Lennox, go to Appearance > Editor > Templates, open the template you need, make your layout changes, and save when you are finished.
